    England's Cotswolds, Bath & Stonehenge

    Duration8 Days
    CountryUnited-kingdom

Out beyond the capital, England slows to the pace of its market towns, and this journey lets your group follow it: three nights in London for Westminster, the Tower and Windsor Castle, then Oxford's colleges on the road into the Cotswolds. Two nights among honey-coloured villages lead on to Georgian Bath, its Roman Baths and the ancient stone circle of Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in London

Your group lands at London Heathrow Airport, where a BRACAP representative meets the flight for the private transfer into central London. After check-in there is time to settle in, and in the early evening a short walk leads through Covent Garden to Waterloo Bridge, with St Paul's Cathedral and the Houses of Parliament in view along the Thames. A welcome dinner follows. Overnight in London.

    2

    Day 2

    Westminster & the Tower

Breakfast, then a licensed guide leads the group through royal London: Westminster Abbey, the coronation church since 1066, then Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guard when it takes place. After lunch the coach crosses the city to the Tower of London, where the Crown Jewels are kept, and the afternoon ends with a walk over Tower Bridge. Overnight in London.

    3

    Day 3

    Windsor Castle

After breakfast the coach heads west to Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. The visit follows the State Apartments and St George's Chapel, the resting place of English monarchs, before the drive back into London. The rest of the day is free for the British Museum, the stalls of Borough Market or a show in the West End. Overnight in London.

    4

    Day 4

    Oxford & into the Cotswolds

Breakfast and check-out, then the coach drives to Oxford, where a licensed guide walks the group past the Radcliffe Camera, the Bodleian Library and the Bridge of Sighs. At Christ Church a multimedia guide leads through the college quadrangles and its cathedral. In the afternoon the road runs west into the Cotswolds, to the Regency spa town of Cheltenham. Overnight in Cheltenham.

    5

    Day 5

    Cotswold Villages

After breakfast a local guide joins the group for a day among the villages of the Cotswolds. The first stop is Stow-on-the-Wold, an old wool town gathered around its market square, followed by Chipping Campden and its long High Street of honey-coloured stone. The afternoon reaches Broadway, at the foot of the hills, with time for tea before the drive back. Overnight in Cheltenham.

    6

    Day 6

    Lacock & on to Bath

Breakfast and check-out, then the coach heads south into Wiltshire to Lacock, a village of stone and timber-framed houses cared for by the National Trust. After time to walk its lanes, the road continues to Bath. In the late afternoon a first walk crosses Pulteney Bridge and follows the river Avon into the Georgian heart of the city. Overnight in Bath.

    7

    Day 7

    Roman Baths & Stonehenge

Breakfast, then a licensed guide walks the group through Georgian Bath, from the Circus to the sweep of the Royal Crescent, before the visit to the Roman Baths, where the hot springs still flow into the ancient pools. In the afternoon the coach crosses Salisbury Plain to Stonehenge, whose great sarsen stones were raised around 2500 BC. A farewell dinner closes the day. Overnight in Bath.

    8

    Day 8

    Farewell from Bath

Breakfast, then free time until the agreed hour for a last walk past Bath Abbey or a coffee in the Georgian streets. A private transfer then takes the group to London Heathrow Airport, closing eight days that ran from the royal castles of the Thames to the villages of the Cotswolds and the stones of Salisbury Plain. End of our services.
