    Vienna, Salzburg & Innsbruck

    Duration9 Days
    CountryAustria

The further west your group travels, the higher the scenery climbs: from the palaces and concert halls of Vienna, past Melk Abbey above the Danube, to Mozart's Salzburg and the lakes of the Salzkammergut, then into the Tyrol at Innsbruck. Local guides lead the visits in every city, and a cable car above Innsbruck closes nine days in Austria alone.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Vienna

Your group lands at Vienna International Airport, where a BRACAP representative is waiting for the private transfer into the city. After check-in, an evening walk follows the Ringstrasse past the State Opera, the Parliament and the City Hall, the grand boulevard that replaced the old city walls. A welcome dinner of Viennese cooking opens the journey west. Overnight in Vienna.

    2

    Day 2

    Imperial Vienna & Schönbrunn

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group through the heart of the Habsburg capital: the courtyards of the Hofburg, the Spanish Riding School stables and St Stephen's Cathedral with its tiled roof. In the afternoon the group tours the state rooms of Schönbrunn Palace, summer home of the emperors, and climbs through the gardens to the Gloriette. Overnight in Vienna.

    3

    Day 3

The Belvedere & a Vienna Concert

After breakfast the Upper Belvedere, a baroque palace above its terraced gardens, opens its collection of Austrian art, with Gustav Klimt's The Kiss as its most famous work. The afternoon is free for the stalls of the Naschmarkt or coffee and cake in a classic café. In the evening the group attends a concert of Mozart and Strauss. Overnight in Vienna.

    4

    Day 4

    Melk Abbey to Salzburg

Breakfast and check-out, then west along the Danube to Melk, where a guided visit leads through the Benedictine abbey, its marble hall, library and golden church high above the river. After lunch in the town below, the coach continues across Upper Austria to Salzburg, reached in the late afternoon, with the fortress already lit above the old town. Overnight in Salzburg.

    5

    Day 5

    Salzburg, City of Mozart

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group from the Mirabell Gardens across the Salzach into the old town: the Getreidegasse with its wrought-iron signs, Mozart's Birthplace and the domed cathedral. In the afternoon a funicular climbs to Hohensalzburg Fortress, with views over the rooftops to the Alps. The evening is free in the old town. Overnight in Salzburg.

    6

    Day 6

    Hallstatt & the Salzkammergut Lakes

After breakfast the coach heads into the Salzkammergut, a UNESCO landscape of lakes and mountains, to Hallstatt, the village of wooden houses and church spires on the shore of its lake. Time for a walk precedes the return along the Wolfgangsee, with lunch and a stroll by the water at St. Wolfgang. The group is back in Salzburg by late afternoon. Overnight in Salzburg.

    7

    Day 7

Rattenberg & Crystal Worlds to Innsbruck

Breakfast and check-out, then the road enters the Tyrol through the Inn valley to Rattenberg, one of Austria's smallest towns, known for its glass-cutting workshops. At Wattens the group visits the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, where art installations sit inside a grass-covered giant. The coach reaches Innsbruck in the afternoon, beneath the peaks of the Nordkette. Overnight in Innsbruck.

    8

    Day 8

    Innsbruck & the Nordkette

Breakfast, then a local guide leads the group through Innsbruck's old town, from the Golden Roof to the Hofburg and the Court Church with the bronze figures around Emperor Maximilian's tomb. In the afternoon a funicular and cable car rise from the city to the Seegrube on the Nordkette, with the Inn valley spread below. A Tyrolean farewell dinner follows. Overnight in Innsbruck.

    9

    Day 9

    Farewell from the Tyrol

Breakfast, then free time until the agreed hour for a last walk along the Inn embankment, where the painted houses of Mariahilf face the old town across the river. A private transfer then takes the group to Innsbruck Airport, or to Munich Airport for longer connections, closing a journey from the Danube to the Alps. End of our services.
