    Three Empires & the Adriatic

    Duration14 Days
    CountryCroatia, Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia-herzegovina, Serbia

Habsburg, Roman and Ottoman worlds meet along a single overland line — Vienna's Ringstrasse, the Julian Alps and Ljubljana, the Dalmatian coast from Split to Dubrovnik, then Bosnia and Serbia. Fourteen days in which private transfers replace the long coach days of mass-market groups, keeping the route unhurried.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Imperial Vienna

Arrival in the imperial capital opens the journey, with local staff meeting your group in the arrivals area and a private transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day stays free: rest after the long trip, or a first walk along the Ringstrasse, the grand boulevard where every building carries some trace of the Habsburg centuries. Overnight in Vienna.

    2

    Day 2

    Hofburg Palace & Saint Stephen's

Breakfast, then an official guide leads the panoramic visit through the Austrian capital: the Hofburg Palace at the centre of Habsburg power, the Gothic bulk of Saint Stephen's Cathedral and the majestic Vienna Opera. The scale of a city that was the intellectual heart of Europe for centuries becomes clear. The afternoon is free, with an optional chamber concert in the Sala Terrena. Overnight in Vienna.

    3

    Day 3

    Alpine Road to Ljubljana

Breakfast and check-out, then a private transfer crosses the Alpine landscapes between Austria and Slovenia, a comfortable run in place of the long coach days of mass-market groups. Ljubljana arrives in the afternoon, a vibrant and welcoming capital known for its dragon-decorated bridges and its unhurried atmosphere. The rest of the day stays free. Overnight in Ljubljana.

    4

    Day 4

    Ljubljanica Riverbanks at Leisure

Breakfast opens a free day in the greenest capital in Europe, where nothing is scheduled. The flowered banks of the Ljubljanica river, the dragon bridges and the terraces along the water fill the hours at whatever pace your group chooses. Optional excursions run to Lake Bled for a pletna boat and its clifftop castle, or to a Potica baking workshop. Overnight in Ljubljana.

    5

    Day 5

    Plitvice Lakes to Split

Breakfast, then the route enters the heart of Croatia and the Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO sanctuary where water sets the rhythm of time. Wooden walkways cross sixteen turquoise lakes linked by an endless run of waterfalls, and an electric boat crosses the widest of them. The road then follows the Adriatic to Split, where a palace became a city. Overnight in Split.

    6

    Day 6

    Diocletian's Palace & Roman Cellars

Breakfast, then a guided visit enters the Palace of Diocletian, a labyrinth of white stone where the glory of Rome runs into the life of the present. Imperial columns now frame design shops and cafés, and the historic cellars open beneath them. The afternoon is free for the old town or the Riva promenade, with an optional tasting of Dalmatian oils and wines. Overnight in Split.

    7

    Day 7

    Free Day on the Riva

Breakfast opens a free day with no fixed programme. The morning suits the seafront, the afternoon the hidden corners of the Dalmatian old town, and the traditional konobas serve the local cooking at whatever hour your group prefers. Optional excursions sail to the island of Hvar or take the group into a Peka cooking workshop with lunch. Overnight in Split.

    8

    Day 8

    Dalmatian Coast to Dubrovnik

Breakfast, then a private transfer follows the Dalmatian coast south along one of the most spectacular panoramic routes in Europe. The road crosses the Bosnian corridor at Neum before returning to Croatian territory, the deep blue of the sea set against sharp mountains. Dubrovnik follows, with free time for a first unhurried walk on its polished stone streets. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

    9

    Day 9

    Stradun & Unconquered City Walls

Breakfast, then an official guided visit crosses the historic centre and climbs the defensive walls that were never taken. The Stradun runs below, its polished stone catching the light, and the sea breeze carries the history of a republic that once rivalled Venice. The afternoon is free, with an optional cable car to the summit of Mount Srđ. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

    10

    Day 10

    Hidden Gardens Above the Adriatic

Breakfast opens a free day for the history and the sun of the Croatian coast. Steep lanes climb between secret gardens and unforgettable views over the water, at whatever pace your group sets. Optional excursions cross the border to the Bay of Kotor, take the local ferry to the island of Lokrum, or enter the Franciscan pharmacy in business since 1317. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

    11

    Day 11

Mostar's Bridge & Jerusalem of Europe

Breakfast, then the border opens on Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mostar comes first, where the Ottoman bridge arches over the turquoise Neretva and the bazaar unfolds in a maze of colour, craft and scent. Lunch is free in that setting before the route continues to Sarajevo, whose skyline of minarets and church spires explains why it is called the Jerusalem of Europe. Overnight in Sarajevo.

    12

    Day 12

Baščaršija & the Tunnel of Hope

Breakfast, then the panoramic visit crosses the Ottoman centre of Baščaršija and reaches the Tunnel of Hope, the passage that kept the city alive under siege. The resilience of a place built on the crossing of civilisations comes through clearly. The afternoon is free, with optional walks through the Sephardic heritage of the city or a tasting in its historic brewery. Overnight in Sarajevo.

    13

    Day 13

    Sarajevo to Belgrade Farewell

Breakfast, then a comfortable private transfer heads for the heart of Serbia. Belgrade receives the group with its magnetic mix of central European elegance and the restless energy of a city that never seems to sleep. As night falls everyone gathers for the farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant, a last round of Serbian hospitality and shared stories. Overnight in Belgrade.

    14

    Day 14

    Kalemegdan Fortress & Saint Sava

Breakfast, then a guided visit climbs to the Kalemegdan Fortress, where the Sava meets the Danube and the two rivers open the widest view in Belgrade. The route ends at the Temple of Saint Sava, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. A private transfer then closes the programme and our services end in the Serbian capital.
