    Provence & the French Riviera

    Duration7 Days
    CountryFrance

The south of France, distilled into six meticulously curated nights. Avignon's papal grandeur and the Roman aqueducts of the Rhône open the week; the Belle Époque glamour of Nice, a hands-on perfume atelier in Grasse and the medieval lanes of Èze close it — Provence at an unhurried, indulgent pace.

    Day by Day

    1

    Day 1

    Arrival in Avignon

Your group is met at Marseille Provence Airport and transferred by private coach through vineyards and olive groves to Avignon, ringed by some of Europe's best-preserved medieval walls. After check-in at your centrally located 4★ hotel inside the ramparts, the afternoon is free around Place de l'Horloge and the storied Pont Saint-Bénézet. A welcome group dinner introduces the flavours of Provence.

    2

    Day 2

    Avignon & the Papal Palace

The morning is devoted to the Papal Palace, the largest Gothic palace in Europe and seat of the popes through much of the fourteenth century. A licensed local guide leads your group through its frescoed chapels, banquet halls and hidden chambers. After lunch near Les Halles market, the afternoon meanders along Rue des Teinturiers and the ramparts, with the evening free for Avignon's bistro scene.

    3

    Day 3

Pont du Gard & Roman Arles

A short drive west stands the Pont du Gard, the three-tiered Roman aqueduct that has spanned the Gardon River for two thousand years — at 49 metres, the tallest the Romans ever built. A guided visit and time along the riverbanks precede lunch. The afternoon belongs to Arles, where a local guide brings the Roman amphitheatre and Van Gogh's luminous streetscapes to life, returning to Avignon by evening.

    4

    Day 4

    Through the Luberon to Nice

Leaving Avignon, the coach climbs into the Luberon and stops in Gordes, a hilltop village of honey-coloured stone with sweeping valley views — in June and July the surrounding plateaux are striped with flowering lavender. After lunch in the village, the drive continues east to the Côte d'Azur. By late afternoon your group checks into a centrally located 4★ hotel in Nice, with the evening free on the seafront.

    5

    Day 5

Nice — Queen of the Riviera

A licensed guide leads a morning walk through Vieux Nice — the Cours Saleya flower market, baroque chapels and narrow lanes scented with socca — before opening onto the Promenade des Anglais, the seven-kilometre sweep of seafront that defined Belle Époque glamour. After lunch in the old town, the afternoon is free for the Marc Chagall Museum, the panoramas of Castle Hill or simply the beach below.

    6

    Day 6

    Grasse Perfume Atelier & Èze

In Grasse, the world's perfume capital since the sixteenth century, your group joins a hands-on atelier at a historic perfume house, blending essences to create a personal fragrance to take home. The afternoon follows the corniche to Èze, a medieval village suspended some 400 metres above the Mediterranean, for a guided stroll through its stone lanes. The week closes with a farewell group dinner overlooking the Baie des Anges.

    7

    Day 7

    Farewell to the Riviera

After a final breakfast facing the Mediterranean, there is time for a last espresso on the Promenade or some parting shopping in Nice's boutiques before all transfers to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport are coordinated. The team assists with check-in and luggage, leaving your group with the scent of Grasse and the light of the south — souvenirs of seven remarkable days in France.
